Susan Spellman, Artist / Illustrator

Susan started her career working for a company specializing in educational filmstrips, Educational Directions Inc., as a staff illustrator. There she illustrated entire filmstrips of fairy tales and folklore. After three years, she began freelancing and as has been working in that capacity for almost 30 years. Her specialty is the human figure and she has spent many years studying anatomy as well as drawing from the live model. She has had the pleasure of illustrating a wide range of topics from serious anatomical studies for science books, to a more whimsical style for children's books.
In addition to commercial art, Susan has pursued an interest in fine art and has exhibited in the Fine Arts Corporation Show in Weston, MA, The Inn Street Gallery in Newburyport, The Marblehead Festival of the Arts, the Nantucket Art Association, and the Newburyport Art Association where she served as president for two years and currently serves as Director of Education and Youth Services.
